Razer Goliathus Extended Chroma (Halo Infinite) Review: RGB Real Estate

3.5

Availability note: the Halo Infinite edition has been discontinued. The link above points to the Gears of War 5 edition — identical pad, different artwork.

A mousepad rarely warrants a review, but Razer’s Goliathus Extended Chroma occupies an unusual position: it is a desk-width cloth surface, a lighting fixture, and licensed merchandise simultaneously. The Halo Infinite Edition wraps the standard formula, a micro-textured cloth surface ringed by addressable RGB lighting, in Master Chief livery.

Why I Bought It

The practical need was a full-desk surface for a keyboard and low-sensitivity mouse use. The Halo branding decided the specific purchase; a long history with the franchise made the themed version an easy choice over the plain model at a modest premium.

Real-World Use

As a mouse surface, the Goliathus is a known quantity: consistent glide, reliable tracking across optical sensors, and enough texture for controlled stops. The extended footprint keeps keyboard and mouse on a single plane and protects the desk beneath. The Chroma lighting ring synchronizes with other Razer devices and with supported games, which is an agreeable effect in a dim room and invisible in a bright one. The printed artwork has resisted fading and wear at the primary mouse position better than expected. The cable routes from the top corner and stays clear of mouse movement.

Longevity has been the pleasant surprise. Cloth pads typically develop a polished, slick track where the mouse lives, and while some sheen is visible under angled light, tracking behavior has remained consistent. The rubberized underside grips the desk completely; the pad has never migrated despite aggressive low-sensitivity swipes. Cleaning is straightforward with mild soap and air drying, though the electronics demand more caution than a plain cloth pad would. The stitched edges show no fraying after extended daily contact with a forearm, which is where lesser pads surrender first.

What I Dislike

The honest assessment is that most of the price purchases decoration. A plain cloth pad tracks identically at a fraction of the cost, and the powered pad adds one more USB cable to manage. I accept both criticisms and keep the pad anyway.

Why I Recommend It

Recommendation depends entirely on the buyer. For a Halo enthusiast building a themed setup within the Razer ecosystem, it is a well-made indulgence. For a buyer seeking mouse performance alone, the unlit Goliathus delivers the same function for far less.
